Welcome! This is the home of Marc Ravaris, M.Ed., instructional designer, content editor, multimedia producer, program developer, event specialist, teacher, trainer, and course facilitator.
I am a strong proponent in the evolution towards adult education being viewed as a lifelong journey, rather than a series of brief trips. My broad goal is to help facilitate this shift to what is being referred to as lifelong learning, both conceptually and in practice. With the evolution of digital communication technologies, the potential exists to deliver lifelong education to a global learning community. However, effective implementation is the key for successful utilization of this powerful, quickly-evolving tool.
Included in this evolution is a better understanding of the transfer of learning, the diversity of the learner, and the evolving role of the educator. I like most, continue to use the word ‘teacher” in a general sense. While it is my belief that educators will always teach, in reality, our responsibility is to facilitate others in learning how to learn, a valuable life’s skill. I’m fond of saying “I don’t teach so much as show others how to learn.”
To this end, I support the trend towards experiential, learner-centered course environments where the educator’s responsibility is no longer the passive transmission of knowledge, but active engagement with learner and content in order to foster deeper learning. This site is but one example of a personal investment in this shift.
I design and facilitate online or blended courses that combine sound adult educational practices with the appropriate use of technology for educational, commercial, corporate, or institutional settings. I actively incorporate strategies to accommodate diverse learners, foster inclusive learning environments, and provide experiential learning opportunities in all programs or curricula I create. My mission is to help you or your organization bridge the gap between visualization and implementation of your ideas.
Closely tied to successful educational programs is creating, developing, researching, editing, and updating the engaging content that these programs require. In addition to to educational programs, which require specialized content, the explosion of social media and websites have created a culture with a voracious appetite for engaging, quality content, and is heavily dependant on multimedia such as videos, screencasts and podcasts. It must be updated constantly as out-of-date content is great disadvantage in our quickly evolving culture centered on instantaneous communication and sharing of information. I am a specialist in developing and implementing effective content for not only educational programs, but blogs, social media sites, and websites, and having an extensive background in communications technology and multimedia production.
As as teacher and instructor, I specialize in helping others learn how to design high-quality blended/online courses like the one described above, and in the use of learning management systems such as Canvas. I am also an experienced, Washington State certified ESL (TESOL) instructor.
As a 30-year business owner I have extensive leadership, management, and administrative experience, which includes developing programs, directing programs, providing customer service, program planning, budgeting, purchasing, personnel, logistics, event production, and onsite event management.
As an educator and employer I serve as a mentor and have been fortunate to have helped students, associates, and employees who have benefited by an additional level of support. I strongly believe that an active, positive presence can be a powerful tool in ensuring the success of many learners. This support can be especially beneficial in ensuring the success of student populations such as first-year or first-generation students.
